I usually like to shoot my stuff, but I do have a couple that for some reason have avoided the range. The first, a Heritage (Performance Center) K22, is one of several K22s I own, so I'm not missing anything. Same goes for the 10-7 5" barreled .38. I like the M&P 5", so I have several others that get shot. These 2 guys have earned their keep by just the enjoyment I've received looking at them during wipe-downs. I think I'll keep them away from the firing line for now.

Thanks, Max... not the best photo (my usual spot was in direct sunlight), but it's OK. Love the guns, improve the pix!

A performance center with no lock, I am so jealous.

You know what's strange Max- the Performance Center revolvers (Heritage, like this one) weren't that popular and most were dumped on dealers or distributors at a loss. Now they're in demand. I don't have the heart to shoot this one... it's just gorgeous like this, unfired. It is a truly fine revolver; carry-up, finish and quality in general are first-rate. Always a good reason to have more than one...

Bob it is such a shame S&W won't drop the stupid lock. They actually have the ability with what they know about metal strength and quality and with some of the equipment they have now to build some of the finest guns ever and they won't. I'm sure some attorney has them convinced the lock is an out of any law suit siting that the gun should have been locked but it sure ruins them IMHO and I only own two that have the locks and the only reason I have those two is because the 500 and the SSR were never made without them. Of all the guns I own those are about the only two I would part with because of the locks.

I love to shoot this gun but hate the lock. Not to mention from the factory it comes with a lighter main spring that I believe to be a wolf spring and it would fail to fire in DA from time to time until I put more pressure on the spring.

I just sold my only lock gun, Max- a 22-4 .45 ACP. Loved it, but hated the lock. A beautful revolver that, with just a couple of minor changes, would truly be a "classic". There are still plenty of what I want out there without locks... and the fun is in the hunt.

Another rookie question, why the strong aversion to the lock? I don't like the concept -- nanny state BS and all of that, but does the lock cause some sort of potential mechanical problem or is it an esthetic thing?

Anything that doesn't serve to make a product better IMHO can only produce problems or the possibility of problems. While I have never suffered it there are reports that under extreme recoil that the locks have engaged by themselves. Nothing could be worst then a gun that locks up after you fire it IMHO. Even though the chance is remote the chance does exist. The lock if you take one apart is a cheesy after thought idea and very fragile IMHO.

There is hope- more no-lock guns (J-frames) will be out next (this) year. It can only get better...

Amen Bob, I also hope that S&W returns the point it can as the finest Revolver builder in the world. I look forward to a nice Performance center without the lock but with the amazing quality they can still build into them.

I won't buy a new S&W because of that lock. I have a 329, but somehow that lock fell apart! ;)

Here's one, Max... Performance Center, no lock, nice stocks by Don Collins and NIB. Doesn't get any better, Bro!

I see you really like the RB guns. This one never goes to the safe, it lives in my range bag and is a fun little 19 that is always with me at the range.
