Hi gang, just need more information please. i just received a redhawk stainless .45 Colt in a 4". i've never have even shot one, so be nice. how is the recoil in this with cowboy loads vs the others? i've done one 1 in a ruger .357 mag. how does it compare? for the local ammo price it looks like i my have to get into reloading. with that question for the person that does reload for this caliber, what do you use? most used powder and/or bullets, primer? loads? and for a real question would you keep it or trade it?

The redhawk is a big heavy revolver. Recoil should be minimal unless you are shooting some real nasty ammunition. I've never owned a redhawk but have owned and fired many smiths and colts. 45 Colt is a great calibre that can go from "Piff tink" to "monster" depending on what your needs are. Most of mine are expended killing steel plates and for informal target work. My favorite load is a 200 grain RNFP over a medium charge of Trail boss. It's a mild clean shooting load that is easy on the equipment AND the shooter.

thanks for the replies, we have a new keeper in the house. after a weekend of shooting i found out i really like this redhawk,(sorry Oriondk) and so does my 12, also most 13 year old daughter. you can feel the power, but it is not a knock you down and drag you across the street. just a nice twist and shove as my daughter put it.
so with this it looks like i get to try reloading (yea! don't tell the wife yet). as for the reloading, i too a plinker most of the time, so for now that will be the focus. Yea!!

... you can feel the power, but it is not a knock you down and drag you across the street...

The thing with the Redhawk is as Dframe mentioned, it can handle any sane load you want to use. And some insane ones. I am not fond of Rugers but they seem to be built for the long haul. Enjoy that revolver and if you need load recipes, I am sure you can find them here.
