I own a couple of glocks. They're not show guns, but make great work and ccw weapons. Out in the zones they're by far the handgun of choice among those who can choose what they carry.

Ummm....this is the REVOLVER forum.

I'm fairly certain that Glock does not make revolvers, but I could be wrong.

Actually it's the mostly revolver forum. There were a few requests for other topics such as 1911's and Glocks since they are so ubiquitous and have a lot of fans.

Glocks might be ugly to some of us but given their combination of reliability, capacity and simplicity I can see why so many law enforcement people use them. And there is a kind of beauty in that utility, if you know what I mean.
Wouldn't mind adding one to my collection, though I'd better get a wheel gun first so as not to get kicked off this forum.:)

There is also the cheap factor. Most police departments controlled by local politicians are carrying "Low Bid" equipment and glock consistently underbids most competetors.

In all fairness, there are a lot of Glocks out on the USPSA circuit. They pretty much dominate the production class. If you consider a firearm as a tool, then the design of a Glock is hard to beat. They seem to chew up any ammo you throw at them, and I've never had a feed problem with mine, but then I've never had a feed problem with any of my auto-loaders.

The brass coming out of a glock is consistantly bulged, and useless for reloading, which is why I don't shoot mine much, at all.

I'm sure that is true in many jurisdictions but in my limited experience cops often get what they want thru specifications. Thus they'll speck an awd patrol vehicle knowing that a tahoe is the only thing that meets the specs, etc. Glock seems to have marketed well to LEO's and built a strong rep like apple did with teachers. Books have been written how the military selected Beretta and its 9mm nato round as standard, though still much debate. Some SOF units get around this by specifying .45 SA weapon for certain conditions. I'm sure there are folks on here with more experience about this issue.

my father-in-law carries a 40cal. glock for a for duty gun.......he said it is not near as accurate as his smith revolver.

Accuracy...under what conditions? The target range? Action competition? Or in a fight? I can certainly understand the attitude. It's a very common mistake to believe that range accuracy is actually applicable to gun fight accuracy. But, to believe that accuracy at level implied by the comment is important is a failure to logically think through what it really means in the context of a fight.

The point is, the gun is meant for combat, not competition games. If the gun can consistently group within the occular window and cardiac triangle, then it's good enough. All the shooter has to do is follow through under combat conditions in order to score a hit (which is hard enough by itself).

Additionally, if someone is in combat training, and they're getting tiny groups, then they're not pushing enough.

If they want tiny groups, then get a gun built for that purpose. There are many gunsmiths who specialize in building tackdrivers...Glock is not one of those companies.
