I wish I had some history on this gun. It's not mine, but I am thinking about buying it. They're asking quite a bit for it, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Anyone wanna venture a guess who's handywork it is?

The case coloring is amazing, now if it just didn't have that damn lock. :)

I hear you Max. I found that a few of the classics, like the model 21, and 22 are being made with case hardened frames. I thought this one was customed, but it's done at the factory. It's almost enough to make me want to get one, but at $999, I'll pass.

One thing to notice; the gun is practically new, but check out the cylinder ring. S&W just doesn't put the effort into timing their guns like they used to. Some say it would cost too much to do the job right, but an extra 30 minutes worth of work would go a long way towards taking care of that problem. Still, a beautiful revolver!!!

The more I look at this gun, the more I absolutely LOVE it. The problem is, I haven't been that good, and Santa is bringing me Charcoal. At least I'll be warm this winter.

I believe this is one of the Heritage models. Something S&W thought up to sell more of the guns with the lock. Lots of folks like the color cased frames but I don't recall them being on any revolver other than the heritage models.

It does look pretty.

Did you get it?

I have never seen a case hardened frame on any S&W prior to this "classics" series. I think that's why it catches my eye. I haven't gotten one yet, waiting to find the right deal. I've even considered sending my 29 frame for case hardening.

Regarding your M29, sounds like a good idea.

There is Turnbull, but he is not the only one doing case work. I recall an Ohio company but can not find my reference right now. (I believe in using local companies when possible) When I find it I will post it.

No Hurry, but if you find that Ohio based outfit, I'd appreciate it.

They are in fact the heritage series. I have a very similar one in 44 special. I ended up buying a set of ahrend stocks for it though. My oven mitt hands were just too big to be able to get a firm grip on that skinny little grip frame.
