I saw a glock one time, I'll admit I have never shot one.

I'll have to admit that I've shot enough rounds through one to replace the barrel! I currently have a 26 and a 17.

I bought my first Glock, because I was working on boats and the other pistols were being ravaged.. I talked to a buddy with the FL Marine Patrol, and asked why do they issue you guys Glocks? He unholstered his sidearm, dipped it in the salt water, and said "I won't bother cleaning it til I see you next" 3 days later I saw him... he came alongside, tied off to my tug and came aboard. There wasn't a speck of rust.. but the ammo had a nice green patina.

Went to Wal-Mart (no shit) and bought my first Glock that weekend. I used to shoot a browning hi-power and a 1911... both were more accurate (at least in my hand) than the Glocks, but as a tool that you can depend on, no matter how bad you neglect its care and feeding.... GLOCK is the way to go!

I shot a friends once. They don't really float my boat, but if I could carry around here, I'd consider one.

My dad ran 4000 rounds through his and never cleaned it and shoot perfect ill say im not that accurate with it the handle geometry is off for me.

The first jam he ever had was this weekend using a 31 round mag it was a dousy though took us an hour to get it out the sheel had exploded and had frooze the gun. I actually broke the rear site off trying to move the slide, didnt relize they were plastic sites. Got it unloaded and shot perfect again. Finally gave it a good cleaning after that

I own two. Right now I'm wearing one 16-18 hours a day. There's handguns I enjoy more, but none I'd switch to right now. I may be lucky, but I've never seen a FTF with a glock. I've participated in classes where everyone used the model 19 (company gun) and fired over 1K rounds in three days. You don't use your issue weapon in these classes, you take the gun given to you for training, many have over 100K rounds thru them. I've been in 3 or 4 of these classes with up to 20 students per class - no FTF's. I did witness an extractor failure once; the gun still worked, shooter just had to rack the slide after each shot. One other thing, for all the talk about the trigger safety issue, in over 5 years in country there have been no ND's. No one goes around alone here, and it would be reported - the government loves reports. They're not a work of art, but they make a hell of a weapon.

I don't especially like them, mostly because I like the 1911 better, and think Glocks are Butt Ugly. That said, I have a Model 20 with a few hundred flawlessly functioning rounds through it. And, although I'm not as accurate with it as I am my 1911s, it'd be my choice if I were to go back to ratting around in the same country as dangerous animals.

On my own time I prefer to carry a revolver, but the glock 20 may just be the ultimate trail gun for hiking, traveling and camping out in wild country.

I've got a model 21 and bought it based upon the reputation for reliability. So far I've only managed to put a thousand rounds downrange and the only malfunction came from a bad mag which has now been crushed. Getting used to the large pistol grip didn't take long and it is fairly accurate. I know the comparison will pop up so...I will admit that I've never fired a 1911 and would like to try one out, but none of my friends or family own one.

Amazing, it's hard to imagine any group of folks that own handguns not having at least one member owning some version of a 1911. :coffee:

Well, if you live anywhere in the vinicity of Deep East Texas, stop by the house and we'll cure your experience deficit.

A Glock seems more like an ugly appliance to me than a thing of beauty like a 1911 or classic revolver. But they are "bulletproof", if you'll pardon the pun, and of course many PD specify them. My son's department requires them to use only Glocks in .40 for patrol and also for off-duty carry. My son hates the small Glock compared to his Kimber Ultra-Carry, but says you never worry about a misfire or jam.

I'm new to this forum but not to 1911's. I have several 1911's , and only ONE glock.

I have tried over the years to wear my Glock 22 .40 cal out by shooting 1000 rds a month through it! I reload so I had the means to really put some serious pain on that weapon. I recently sold the piece for 100 more than I paid for it and my buddy is still shooting it today. I guess I understand the butt ugly comment and have several 1911 models that are beautiful but...none of them shoot as accurate or as well as my new Glock 27. It will eat anything and everything I feed it and not one problem with it or the 22 before. As far as self-defense with a handgun in a serious fire fight with multiple rounds needed, this is the gun I will choose!

What Jimfox said! I carried one for several years since my department didn't allow choices in firearms. It was reliable, functional, rust resistant, butt ugly, and it's ergonomics left a lot to be desired. I didn't really care for it, but bought mine back when I retired. To this day it's the only one I ever have, or ever will, own.

My brother has a Model 21 that he would never part with. I bet he has 5000 rounds through it and still shoots as good as the day he bought it. Its still an ugly gun though...:D

Well, have years of avoiding them, I think I'm going to get one. Was at Sportsmen's Warehouse today checking out the Model 20 and 29. I sold my SIG 220 and need a semi auto for the house. I like the fact that I can mount a flashlight or laser to it for use in the dark. Have to wait awhile, though. I just bought a house and have no extra money to burn.

I think someone should design a bag that goes over the gun so you could take it to the range and shoot it without the embarrassment of the butt ugly gun. :)

Someone has. Fobus. Their holsters are almost as lacking in esthetics as is the Glock.

Unfortunately - like the Glock - they tend to be very utilitarian and work quite well.

My 21 is my ugliest firearm and I've toyed with the idea of selling it for a 1911 but I'm pretty sure it will never break or fail to fire so I can't justify being rid of it.

I saw a glock one time, I'll admit I have never shot one.Was at the club's indoor range, sighting in the racegun after replacing the red dot mount. With my amplified ear protection on, overheard this conversation between a New Kid and a Crusty Ol' Coot who were shooting a few lanes over:

New Kid: Hey, you want to shoot my Glock?

Crusty Ol' Coot: Sure, just hang it up with the other targets....
