Hello
I had always wanted a K-38 But they for some reason They do not Come along often in my area. A few Months ago, I met a guy that was carrying one around at a Local Gun show I was attending. He explained he had bought it new back in 1964 while on leave from the service in Norfolk, Virginia. I Looked at it, and it was evident he had taken good care of it all these years. He asked me if I knew what one was worth ? I hate beng asked that, as I do not want to Insult and owner of a gun, which I explained to him before dropping the actual average price of one. I shared with him that in the real world these K-38's averaged around the $350.00-$400.00 mark depending on whether or not you had the original Box, paperwork, and documents it would have come with. He made me sick when he said he had used the Original box to sight it in back in 1964. I told him, That I felt his gun was worth $375.00 as it was just a gun with nothing else with it. He Did not seem Offended by my Price quote, then asked if I felt anyone at this Gun show would swap him for a .357 magnum. I said sure, but most vendors that swapped did this to make money, so it would Take on average $ 150.00 and his revolver to make that happen. He seemed unpleased with my comment, but I added if he did not make a deal at the show on his Gun, That I had just taken in trade a nice model 19 Blued with a 4" Barrel that I would consider swapping for his K-38. He took down my cell phone number and said if a deal did not happen he would be calling me. I did not see him again at the show but on Monday of the following week he called and asked to meet up with me to look at my model 19. I met with him and he was very Pleased with the gun I offered for trade. he said he could not Put anything with it, as he was on a Fixed Income, and had Just learned he had Cancer and he did not have Six months to Live, but it had always been his Dream to Own a nice model 19, but he had not gotten around to Buying one all these years. I sat there thinking of all the good deals I had come across over the years, and it saddened me that this Old Guy did not have long to live, so I asked to see his K-38 again and said if that 19 Made him happy, I would Make his Dream come true. He was really Happy and thanked me about six times before I got out of his vehicle. I watched him drive off, and felt good about helping out the old guy as I too had gotten some really good deals over the years and several People had reached out to me and made swap deals with me when Buck's were short, so it was time I did the same thing. Below is his K-38 masterpiece with the Original grips it shipped with in 1964, and below that is a K-38 Combat Masterpiece my Wife bought me Last Easter..H.D.
