Not a real COLLECTABLE gun, but it is special to me.

My father has smallish hands. He likes his pistols on the compact side and shoots well with them. He came across a couple of 60-18's with consecutive serial numbers. He bought one of them, and I bought the other. When we get together, we shoot them. I wish they didn't have the lock, but it's a solid performer. Needless to say, this is one pistol I'll never part with.

Why they put a 6" barrel on a J frame I'll never be able to explain. I like to think they knew my dad needed a small frame revolver with a barrel long enough to hunt with. I like to think they made it JUST FOR HIM.

Actually it's a 5 inch barrel - and they are a bear when it's time to find a good holster.

I have two of the Model 60s one with the 3 inch barrel and one like your's with the 5 inch barrel. They are both very sweet, but I think I probably favor the 3 inch version as just an all around farm gun. :thumb:

But I do like the longer barrel version enough that I acquired a Model 63 (.22 LR, 8 rounds) to go with it ~ also with a 5 inch barrel. :D

Tell your Dad that the Model 63 makes a great off season practice/companion gun to complement his Model 60 - and I highly recommend it.

Thanks Jim. Will do. I took some new photos of it with a light box I constructed. Not bad for a point and shoot camera.

Nice pictures.

I hadn't known until very recently that S&W had offered the Model 60 with a ported barrel. How does that work with the longer barrel?

I'm enveous. I'd love to find one to experiment with alongside it's unported sisters.

OFallon - you know my bad experience with EPS and their "We Don't Make Mistakes." customer service.

However, De Santis also makes a nice belt holster for them. :)

Mostly pancakes but with the Threepersons and a couple other styles.

Besides, the Pancake does it all!

I like the MagnaPort on longer barrels better than on shorter barrels. Less muzzle flash, and great manners. I had a full size colt anaconda with a magnaported barrel, 6". Probably my favorite big handgun, until it got stolen.

The light box really makes the guns look good.

I had to check, before I made you really jealous. The 60-18 that my dad has in his safe is unported. Consecutive serial numbers, one ported, one un-ported. The Porting makes a big difference in felt recoil with full load 357's.

Yeah, you're right - I could work up a serious case of envy.

As a really good son - I'm sure you have the 5 inch Model 63 already wrapped and under the tree for your Dad. :D :thumb: :thumb:

I guess I'm a terrible son. ;)

My brother and I will be taking my Dad on another pig hunt. The freezers are empty, and we would like to get Dad in the woods again.
