View Full Version : A Range Trip for The S&W 16-4 revolver in .32 H&R Magnum

Hello
I have had this S&W Model 16-4 for awhile. I Bought it New In Box when I got it. I have Played with the .32 H&R Magnum round and made an actual Magnum out of the rather weak factory round by loading it to my specs. as no reloading manuels give any loads for mouch over 1000 F.P.S. But loaded by hand this round is capible of .357 Magun velocity if you are willing to experiment with it. This load was a target load and the upper end using IMR-Unique Powder at 4.0 grains. I will now load hotter since I saw it reacted well with it to see if I can get the groups to shrink a bit.....Hammerdown

No this group was fired from a Sand Bag rest. I am going back to the range with it today with the load increased to 4.5 Grains of Unique. They say not to go beyond 4.0 with this powder, but that is to cover their butt with lighter frame revolvers.. This beefy K-Frame can handle it.. :p I hope to see better groups and if I do, I will Drag out my Chronograph and see what kind of velocity they are doing as at 4.0 out of a 6" Barrel they are supposd to be at 1000 FPS... As reported i returned to the range to try this load at 4.5 Grains of unique. Recoil was heavier and report was louder, but the group size increased. Time to either back it down or try another Powder...I have some accurate Number 2 and number 5 Prehaps this round will come to life with it ? Hammerdown

Thank's..I am after One hole ragged groups so Powder is my next option for changing to see if that makes the groups tighter..Hammerdown

I have been using Tightgroup with a Hornady 85 grain JHP and have got velocity up around 1200fps. I also have an M&P in 32-20 that I have taken the cylinder out and fitted to the M-16, absolutley no advantage, the 32 mag is just as fast as the old 32-20.

How many grains of Tight group have you been dropping to get 1200 FPS ? Hammerdown
