I need a good holster for my GP100 4" barrel. I'm thinking of trying IDPA with it. All I know for sure is the holster has to cover the trigger guard.

Take a look at www.ghostholster.com

They were really helpful for me.

Can't remember, does the Bianchi 5H cover the trigger guard. I personally don't own a holster that covers the trigger guard, and can't imagine ever buying one. Almost all my revolver holsters are made by El Paso Saddlery.

I went to an IDPA match to check it out. There was only one guy there shooting a revolver, a GP100 like mine. He was using a Bianchi holster, but it had a flap. It seemed to me that would really get in the way of drawing quickly. I did look at Bianchis, but didn't see any I liked.

No, in the 5BH, my N frame has the trigger outside the leather.

Thanks StrawHat, just checked on the web for a photo. The 5H is a good holster for a revolver, has the thumb-break; reasonably secure. So holsters with uncovered trigger guards are not allowed in IDPA. I can't imagine wearing a holster with a covered trigger guard if carrying a revolver. Must be put in the rules for liability purposes.

I picked up a ghost holster, and it secures the revolver ONLY by the trigger guard. It has a "lock" which is lever activated. The lever is swept up with the draw motion. I'll see if I can post some pictures of it tomorrow. It's kinda peculiar. The entire gun is open, other than the trigger guard.

I'd like to see what that looks like.

Gun Secured in Ghost Holster. Note the little locking lever that is under the handle of the revolver.

As you draw the gun, you sweep the locking lever up and pull the gun out of the holster with very little resistance.

The gun comes free from the holster with an upward, or forward motion.

The internal locking mechanism is a large ball bearing with a cam lock down. When the cam mechanism is pushed toward the holster, and then turned, the ball is pushed forward and holds down the trigger guard.

That's the truth. It's fine for this speed stuff, but definately a one use rig.

You're most welcome.
