I figured I'd open up the semi-automatics section.

I've got a Colt Officers Lightweight (their first fore into alloys back in the '80's, I think) and a Springfield Armory competition. Personally, I like the Springfield's as a "bang for the buck" gun.

So, what's the general consensus in a 1911 style, Colt, Springfield, Kimber, S&W, Taurus or fully custom?

Every automatic I own is based on the 1911 gun. I have three colts and one WWII model.

I perfer the Colt. I have a couple colts, and a para 13. I really don't care for the width of the double stack at all. The colt just feels right in the hand.

I agree, I've never been a fan of the Para or any double stack 1911 style.

I've only owned one Colt, a Delta Elite 10mm. Great gun but, unfortunately, I sold it. A buddy I shoot with has or had some 1911 style guns, a Springfield milspec, a Les Baer, and a Dan Wesson CBOB. The Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special is probably the most accurate semi-auto I've ever shot, but way out of my price range. But the Dan Wesson shot almost as well. I'm selling my crappy shooting XD40 and getting a DW. Nice shooting well made guns. For $900 you get a gun with Ed Brown parts that is highly accurate, for a production gun, from a company that has great customer service from everything I've read.

Here's a target I shot with my buddy's Les Baer.
15 yards off hand:

Here's one from the Dan Wesson at 25 yards off a sandbag. The one on the lower right was a called flyer. This ammo was shooting high, obviously.

You are aware that DW is now CZ

Yeah, I'm aware. Still made in America, still good customer service, and still great guns for the price. I haven't heard anything bad about them since the takeover. Besides, if you've ever shot a CZ75, you know CZ makes pretty good guns in their own right.

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest CZ ownership was a bad thing, just that is isn't the same small operation it used to be.

I looked long an hard at a DW 1911 but I got a screamin' deal on a Springfield custom shop gun that I couldn't pass up.
