Hello
I am a Lover of the elaborate model 27. As Most of you Know, S&W was The company that took the Famous .357 Cartridge to it's fame way back in 1936 by coming out with what was then called a registered Magnum. They Hooked up with Remington Arms and Remington Built the .357 Magnum Cartridge as we know it today. Some feel it was developed for Law Enforcment which S&W is famous for and has been since the company started in 1850, But the Birth of the .357 Magnum round in a handgun was the Brain child of Joe Wesson who wanted a Cartridge to stop Big Game. It of course caught the eye of Law enforcement due to it's masive Power back then, the .357 Magnum was the Hottest Cartridge in a handgun back in that time span. Early on in 1936 The Registered Magnum idea was S&W's way to offer the Sportsman a way to order a Custom built Gun, allowing the customer the Option of ordering about any barrel, sight, or configuration the company made and the Orders started Pouring in at such an alarming rate, that Three Years after the birth of the Pre-27 S&W entered this handgun into their standard order catalong with many of the custom options being offered now on it as well, squelching the Registratiobn custom order Process that Proceeded it. In 1957 S&W Started Stamping all the crane area's on the main frame part of their handguns and the model 27 was chosen for this .357 magnum. It carried the elaborate cross check style checkering on it's top strap and rear sight and also had some of the most Gorgeous High Polished bluing and Nickel finish's to ever Be offered by S&W as it was considered the Companies most elaborate .357 magnum handgun. The model 27-2 is by far the most common one made so let's see your 27-2's or any other model 27's you may have in this S&W .357 Magnum Model 27 dedication thread. Regards, Hammerdown
