Saw a consignment H&R .22 revolver at dealer today for $175. Nice, small snubby. Thought about getting it for my wife (though she has her eye on a Taurus 94 lightweight snubbie). Any thoughts?

What model are you talking about? Is it the top-break?
H&R made many different revolvers, in .22 r.f., .32 S&W and .38 S&W caliber. They were solid, dependable revolvers at much less cost that contemporary Colt and Smith & Wessons. Most were sold as "bedside guns" or tackle box guns, where they filled the need very well.

I once owned a H&R 22 magnum revolver and found it entirely adequate for it's purpose. It was surprisingly accurate but I couldn't get used to the stacking of it's action and eventually sold it. Mine was a solid frame with a swing out cylinder. No idea what the model number was.

This one was had a swing out cylinder like a S&W. It had a small grip and seemed pretty heavy. That was a turnoff for my wife. She had used an airweight Smith .38 to qualify for her CCW and liked the light weight. She really wants a light weight .22 snubby. I called my FFL buddy who a few weeks ago had a supply available of the Taurus 94 in that configuration. He made some calls and found they are impossible to get from the distributors he deals with. Suggested we hit gun stores and try to find one in stock.

Remphoto - see if you can find a S&W Model 317 in the 2 inch configuration. It is a .22 LR with an eight round cylinder. It is as light as a feather. :D (If you can find a 10 ounce feather. :) )

I looked for a used one at an affordable cost but all I could find was a new one for $500+. I just can't justify paying that much as I just ordered a new Taurus 94 for myself. I guess we all have priorities and I have other vices that also need funding (cameras, motorcycles, etc.) I just can't invest the kind of money into guns as some of the rest of you. I do like reading about your experiences, though, and some day I might hit the lottery.
