View Full Version : My old, new Lawman III
This is one of those I have never shot, I purchased it several years ago and it still had the hang tag on it with all original paper work. Not a python but still has I believe the same mechanics and butter smooth action.

If that is a MKIII the lock work is not the same as a Python, if it is pre-MKIII then you are correct.
Martin it is in fact a MKIII, so how would you rate the action on this compared to the other colts?

The MKIII have all coil springs like the Anaconda series, I would rate the action as robust but not as smooth as a Python. They are in fact much harder to clean up than a Colt D frame or any of the S&W frames, more like working on a Ruger or the later Colt guns. It will take a lot more abuse without coming loose at the seams, more like the Rugers again. Barrel quality is nop notch like all the Colts have been, the barrel is tapered from breech to muzzel accounting for the excellent accuracy of these guns. You can actually re-load 9mm bullets for Colt guns and not notice a drop in performance, giving you a wider choice of bullet weights for re-loading. Value wise it is not in the same league as the D frame Colts. It also uses different speed loaders and grips, I think it is referred to as an I frame.

The J frame revolvers appeared in 1969 as a means to reduce manufacturing costs. they are solid guns though not quite as smooth as the earlier action. The I frame is the one used on the Python, the 357, and the earlier trooper model. Most of the J frame guns I have fired exibited excellent accuracy.
