Be prepared for even less ammo and higher prices. Read this article and then write your Senators and Representatives. This is nothing short of a back door attack on the 2nd Ammendment. I just finished writing my Congressman and Senators. Edited to add: I've also written the White House. We should flood them with e-mails.

Thanks for the heads up. In all seriousness thought, what do we do about all this? Everything seems to be getting further and further out of hand to the point where everyday the government does at least one thing that appears to be a back to door to ditch constitutional rights. This sort of BS is really starting to drive me crazy.

Driving me nuts, too. I'm trying to keep on my representatives. Writing does help if enough people do it. They really need to get flooded with e-mails to take notice. The more people you can convince to write the better.

I think it has been rumored for a while that they will be going after ammunition sales rather then gun sales. I know that is one of the reasons I have been stockpiling for a while. I expect ammunition to be available but what they are going to do is price it so the pleasure target shooting will be a thing of the past. You should to check function and sight in and then you pack it away. The ammunition might cost as much as the gun does.

Max, as much as I'd like to stockpile I just don't have the money. I'd love to have about 10,000 rounds socked away. I may start trying to stockpile some reloading components, though. It'd be a lot cheaper.
I think it's really important to get people writing their representatives and the White House. I know there are some politicians that have their own agendas and don't care what the people think. But, their are a good many that will listen if they get enough feedback. In my case I'm pretty sure Senator Boxer is a lost cause, but I write anyway.

This reminds me of the Arab gas embargo in the 1970's. Everyone panicked and hoarded gas, making it tough to buy gas for a time. Same thing seems to be happening though the Arabs have been replaced by BHO.

The bad part is that I can't afford to stockpile a lot of ammunition. I could probably horde a fair amount of .22 and 9mm but I certainly can't afford to stockpile more than about 500 rounds each of .223 and 7.62 and even then that is a short term solution. Something needs to be done about all this, but I have no idea what. Can you imagine a million man march of gun owners on DC? Methinks they would take that the wrong way.

Im with you rightspecial i can stock pile .45's when i can find them but 7.62 is another story i missed my chances to now i can't find any wolf im pisseed

A hardy congratulation is due to our loyal customers, our good friends, and our fellow shooting enthusiasts through out this great nation! Due to the diligent and overwhelming effort of many thousands of you, calling, writing, and emailing our elected officials, DOD Surplus, LLC, has rescinded its prior directive that ALL small arms spent casings be mutilated rather than recycled. This was a huge victory for common sense and we would like to thank each and every person who made an effort and played a role in correcting this mistake. We at Georgia Arms are proud of everyone who took the time and had the courage to stand up for our rights. We believe, that by your outpouring of anger and dismay, you not only extended our liberty and freedoms but also took a stand for economic common sense in a time when we know our government should be trying to reduce costs at all levels rather than throwing money away for some politically correct reason or the other. Again, our hat is off to everyone who helped and thanks to God as well. We will roll up our sleeves and go back to work; we have 223’s and 308’s to build! (Below is a copy of the email we received from DOD on 3/17/09 @ 4:30pm)

GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!

(This was pertaining to an outstanding bid on a lot of brass that we won prior to the mutilation order. DOD sent us a bill for the brass after we had refused it due to the mutilation requirements. DOD on Monday sent us a bill for the brass and when we responded that we had already refused it due to the mutilation clause, we received this reply via email.)

I am sorry you hadn’t been informed –

Word came down that all shells 50 caliber or smaller CAN still be purchased without the mutilation requirement as long as kept in the US.

(As it was in limbo, I did not sent your EUC to Battle Creek until today, also why I have not contacted you for payment until today.)

Thanks!

I just got an email back from one of my Representatives:

Dear Dr. Rivero:

Thank you for writing me about the disposition of excess and surplus Department of Defense property, including fired military small arms cartridge cases.

The DOD works to ensure only appropriate items are made available for public resale. Items must undergo an evaluation and it must be determined that their resale does not threaten national security.

Recently, the Defense Logistics Agency determined that small arms cartridge cases met the appropriate criteria and may be made available for resale. Buyers who purchase cartridge cases from the government must be approved to do so under current Trade Security Controls.

Thank you again for writing me.

Sincerely,
Sherrod Brown

A little slow, but it's nice to hear back from them. ;)

Sherrod Brown (actually his office) always responds to my mail. Usually he is in disagreement. I'm surprised he has anything positive to say regarding arms.

While I have been able to find most of what I need I am still searching for more 22lr at a bargain. I can find it but even wally world now wants $6 for Super X and even more for federal in the 100 round boxes and I used to pay like $11 for the 550 round federals that worked great. I have about 4k rounds so it's not a real issue but if I stumble across some I'll get it, I do hear the 550 round boxes when you can find them have almost doubled now though.

I don't know what they used to be but here I'm paying $7/100 CCI MiniMags, $25/550 Remington Tornadoes, and $3.87/ 50 Remington Sub-Sonic. Actually, with the exception of one local gun shop even .22lr is difficult to find around here.

If it is any consolation, we went past the Remington ammo plant on I-40 near Memphis this evening on the way back to the Frozen North and the parking lot was filled with cars. Let's hope they are working at full capacity!

And then some. They are working around the clock to keep up with demand. They swear that's the reason for the lack of reloading supplies.

I spoke with the Remington Rep and the Winchester Rep at Cabela's last Saturday.

I picked up 2 boxes of Winchester SXZ .40 180 gr. JHP from Bass Pro in Olathe this afternoon for $22. When I left they had a lot left, I didn't count but it looked like 15 boxes or more. However I did overhear one of the employees say that the 9mm sold out as almost as fast as they put it on the shelf.

I have finally been getting around a bit and now see what you guys are talking about. Plenty of ammo around here, but price's have left the roof way behind. Winchester, white box, $40.00 a box @50. Federal .22LR (PREM) $4.99 a box-- That is $50.00 a brick by my math. CRIKEY!!! :( :paper:paper:paper :banghead:banghead

I have seen Federal 45ACP being offered for $650.00 a case of 1000. I normally pay $189.00 a case.
