After a LOOOONG process I finally obtained my carry permit. Here in Mexico you can legally own weapons only for home defense so the weapon has to be kept in your house. A carry permit is very difficult to get

Anyway, I am limited to a .380 handgun. The choices are:

1. Sig Sauer P232
2. Berreta FS84
3. Taurus PT138 Millennium Pro
4. Glock 25

I chose the Glock because I already own some other Glock models. This "baby" Glock seems to me the best choice but I have never carried a handgun for more than a couple of days. I still can change my mind but I would really appreciate good advice on the pros and cons of the 25 against the other choices.

Thank you all.

Miguel

Don't forget the bersa thunder regular or cc if that is attainable. Inexpensive, dependable and compact. I love mine. Has saw/da with decoching lever which I think is best of all worlds. Similar in design to a ppk but half the price and more reliable than the newer ones. From your list I'd personally chose the sig due tonsize and features though it is pricey.

If you already own and like other glocks it seems the perfect choice for you. Glocks have a reputation for reliability and that should be your number one consideration in a self defense weapon. Personally if I could I'd prefer a heavier caliber but who really cares what I think. What YOU think and like are most important.

I think Litox would like a bigger caliber, but due to Mexican Law, he's only able to carry a .380, Max caliber. It's amazing that Litox is able to get a permit to carry at all in Mexico. Credit to his standing in the society, I'm sure. I think you could do a lot worse than a Glock for carry.

Assuming Glock has passed their legendary reliability to the G25, I'd say you have a winner! I'd love to get a G25 myself, but they seem to be Latin American only.

Thanks george. I wasn't even aware that the 25 couldn't be bought in this country. To be honest I didn't know fro sure what it was. Can you tell I'm NOT a glock person?

The story as I understand it is that the military calibers are prohibited for civilians, so Glock went with a .380 for the Latin American Market.....

They are not sold to Joe Public (in the US) because they lack BATF points... LEOs can buy them but why? they are physically the same overall size as the G19

More to read from Glock (http://www.usglock.com/index_files/glock25.htm)

I know nothing about the Glock 25, but I do have a Sig 232 and a Beretta Model 84. Both are really fine guns, but I'd opt for the Beretta. Higher capacity and the safety works like the 1911 safety with which I'm familiar.

In a 380 I'm still using my old tried and true PP/K. I've fired thousands of rounds through it and it has never failed.

Ever had an issue with hollow points? Mine used to choke on anything but FMJ and Glasers

Nope. Don't know if I got lucky or what but mine will feed anything. Even with light loaded cast boolits, it's perfectly happy. Only problem I ever had was my own stupidity in loading some stuff TOO light.

That's exactly right. As a civilian you can buy ONE handgun for home defense (up to .380) and several for hunting or shooting if you belong to a legal hunting club.

The carry permit is the hard part.

Here are 2 pics of the G25
