Had my little 22 out over the weekend. A S&W m34 with a 4" barrel. (A J frame 22 for you non S&W folks) Had the same sticky extraction I remembered (I was going to polish the chambers years ago, put it away and forgot to do it.) Haven't decided if I will keep it and regrip it or let it go down the road.

Anyone else like these little ones or the SS equivalent, M63?

I would love to find a snub nose 63 affordable but for a four inch I still like my six shot 617. On the sticking ammo, have you tried any other brands just to see if it might change it?

I like the little 34 a lot. Would someday like to add one to my accumulation. (even if it isn't a :Dcolt ). I've never been a huge fan of stainless guns. To me they look like an "in the white" gun that someone forgot to finish. I'll take a nice blued gun every time.

It seems with any S&W 22 LR revolver I get the ammo wants to stick in the chambers. I usually end up polishing the chambers and that takes care of things. Same thing has happened with a couple of the M17s I have owned. The M34 is the worst, I really have to push on the extractor rod to get them to move.

I haven't tried any "new" ammo. I buy rimfire stuff in large amounts at a time once I find out what the firearm likes. Maybe I should see what is available these days.

Well if you ever deceide to send it on down the road, I'd be glad to give it a nice home. It WOULD have to bunk with a lot of cobras and detectives though. :D
Just wondering, Has anyone else out there had trouble with rough chambers on 22's?

I'm right fond of the Model 34 with the round butt and 2 inch barrel. When I was up north and would make fall hunts that was always my "camp meat" gun. I've eaten many a meal off of that gun. For some reason I could always shoot the 2 inch round butt better than the 4 inch configuration, but alas, age has made most handgun sights hard to manage anymore - at least with any great precision.

Like Dframe I'm not generally fond of stainless, although now that I live down here in the Sweat Belt I do admire certain of it's characteristrics. I do make an exception for my Model 63 with the 5 inch barrel. I think it is a mighty fine little 8 shooter.

Isn't that also the favorite mob hit gun, quiet and not as messy since it usually goes in and rattles around. :O

I can see why the .22 would be a favored cartridge for such work. I don't know about the Model 34 as a favored delivery platform. If one were to use a small .22 revolver for that purpose it'd seem there would be other less costly guns that would serve just as well when it might be a "use once, then dispose" tool.

It is my understanding that one of the respected overseas organizations favored the Ruger Standard auto.

Hello
I "Had" Two of them in the past. One was a Lousy shooter and the second one went to live in The Lone Star State. Here is a Picture of the one I swapped off that went to Texas. I have been told that being shot with a .22 round is the worse caliber to be shot with. Their dirty Powder element causes severe Infection and the bulet tumbles when it enters the Human Body. I Guess that is why I equipped my Wife with a S&W Model 61 Escort for her Purse carry gun... Hammerdown

Mr. Hinkley took down three grown men with a low budget .22 revolver. The reports about wound repair would make a believer out of many. Not a lot of stopping power - whatever that is - but it can leave an impressive wound channel.

Sirhan Sirhan also used a cheap 22 as I recall.

I understand it is also a favorite of the IRA and the Israeli's.

In "Vengance" the author says his Israeli secret assasin team used Beretta 22 semi autos exclusively, and ALWAYS double tapped.

I guess that is a reason that some 22's come factory threaded for a silencer.
