View Full Version : S&W .45 Slug Jammed
Need some help. Cartridge misfired and full wadcutter is jammed between the barrel and the cylinder. Cylinder will not rotate or release. :banghead
Have to figure out how to get the bullet pulled forward into the 7.5" barrel so the cylinder will release and can be removed. Then maybe I can get the bullet out of the barrel.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.........Thank You..........Brad

Use a wood dowel. Tap it from the muzzle back into the cylinder. Then remove the cylinder and then tap out the bullet from the cylinder. Squibs in a revolver are no fun. ;)

What RJ said!
You MAY use a brass drift as an alternative to the dowel, but back into the case the bullet must go. Tap gently and just enough to get the bullet out of the forcing cone and clear of the cylinder face.

You would do well to put some 'BREAKFREE' down the muzzle, or spray in some 'PAM'-- doesn't matter how tight you may think the bullet is, it will help. Once you get the cylinder open it is a snap to pop the offending bullet out,-- AFTER you eject the brass. :)
Brad, do you have any photos of this before you start? Would be nice for reference.

Thank you for the information. I will give this a try. I tried an aluminum dowel and that is how the bullet got jammed between the barrel and the cylinder. I guess I just did not tap enough.

Thanks, I will continue the tapping and try to get it cleared back into the case.

Thank you, I will give it more slippery juice before I continue trying to tap it back into the shell so I can get the cylinder open.

One other thing, Brad.
If the bullet is deformed badly, you may have to force it back past the forcing cone and into the cylinder.
We did it once on a .45 with a 9mm spent casing on the end of a solid steel rod and a 3lb hammer. Using the spent casing will protect the barrel while getting A LOT of force on the bullet. You may smoosh the bullet flat, but it will punch out.
