I have an opportunity to purchase a 32 caliber Ladysmith J frame. Pre-lock 3 screw.

Does anyone know what these are going for in the Very Good to Good Condition?

Thanks.

RJ

RJ right now prices are going crazy. I know my local gun shops can't keep anything on the shelf at any price. Guns and safes are the two fastest growing sales items according to a consumer report I read. I guess that shows how much faith people have in the economy right now. How much are they asking?

Well, we're discussing that right now. I'm thinking I can get it for $350. I need to memorize HammerDown's instruction on inspecting handguns in a hurry. We're supposed to talk brass tax tomorrow night.

$350 would be a good price if it's in good shape, would be nice if they had the original box of course.

Hello RJ
Are you speaking of the stainless model 631 shown below in .32 H&R Magnum ? They are averaging just under a grand because not many were made.. Hammerdown

Is that Nickel? The one I'm supposed to be looking at is stainless. I haven't seen it yet. We had to postpone. All of a sudden, my ears perked up. Thanks HammerDown. I'm gonna have to increase my offer. Wouldn't feel right otherwise.

Well, the revolver is indeed a 631 in 32 Magnum. The pistol has some holster wear. The grips don't appear to be the original rosewood. I'll post some pictures when I have some time to clean her up.

Hello
If you want it to look original these came with a soft look stainless. Clean it up and use a Scotch Brite pad to take the shine off it. mine is Polished because that is what I Liked. They also came with a set of Rubber Uncle mike's Boot grips when sent from the factory mine has both sets..If you don't mind me asking what did you give for it ? Hammerdown

Thanks Kurt. The grips appear to be Walnut. They do have a S&W medallion on them. The finish is bright polished stainless.

It's not like the 65LS that was stolen in September which was a bead blasted stainless.

I have yet to pay anything for it. Since it's taboo to have guns at work, he wants me to take it home and inspect it closely. Then get back to him. One thing that does bother me is that one of the screws appears NOT to be factory. It's one that holds the sideplate on. I'll shoot some photos tonight when I get home and I'll show you what I mean. It's the screw under the cylinder next to the "Smith and Wesson made in the USA Springfield Mass." Stamp on the right side of the revolver.

You're not helping me work the price down on this revolver any. ;)

Well, the revolver is now in the safe. I ended up trading a model 60 snub nose for it strait up. I need to get some correct grips for it, because the grips on it now are not the ladysmith grips, in either the Rosewood, or the Rubber Combat Grip offerings.

RJ I really do like those grips. If you sell them let me know, I might like them on my J frame I carry but has Uncle Mike grips on it now.

Didn't some of the LadySmiths come with a purse of some sort? For years I tried to get my wife to let me buy her one and she wasn't interested. Based on the going price which I had.

The early ones came in a Bob Allen Pistol case in Burgandy with grey striping/piping. The newer ones came in a custom burgandy molded presentation case, with grey liner.

Alot of folks shyed away from the "Ladysmiths" when they were introduced as ladies guns. I however, was quite fond of them from the get go. The bead blasted finish on the 65LS is my favorite. Along with the Rosewood Combat Grips, it's just a beautiful package.

If I ever come across a 66LS, I'll buy it on the spot.

Hello Rj
I can also tell you that the Lady smith revolvers have smoother actions. S&W Places Lighter weight springs in them and works the action a little more that standard revolvers due to ladies weaker strength than men they wanted to insure the revolver worked good for them... Hammerdown

That is sweet! You gonna dull the finish or leave it bright?

When you compare this revolver to Hammerdown's I think it becomes apparent that this is the dulled finish, I'm going to leave it as is.

I see. The bead blasting was on a few specific Ladysmiths. Well, one in particular, the 65LS. I think they had one semi-auto Ladysmith in bead blasted stainless as well.

I'm glad you are enjoying that rifle. It's a nice one for sure. When you are finished customizing it, please post some pictures!!

Not to hijack the thread.. but the Tapco stock I ordered came in "bent" almost 0.030" in both X & Y (yeah I used a dial indicator)... sent it back to Tapco.. no return yet.

Thanks Max. I ordered a set of Hollow Ground Screw Drivers for the Smith and Wesson Revolvers. I don't want to bugger up any screws. ;)

The Altmont Grips came in for this revolver. The correct rosewood panels with the S&W logo to bring this piece back to factory form. The grips fit beautifully, and I'm quite happy with the result. I will post pictures, maybe this weekend. Unfortunately, I'm at work right now until Friday Night.

I should have this 631's BIG SISTER, the 65LS by Saturday too. I sense a photo-op coming on. ;)

The Ladysmith is a real nice revolver. Nearly bought one years ago when they were affordable.
Now, if I could just find a Colt Special Lady that cost less than my car I'd be real happy.
