Visited a new to me gun store today. It is a little hole in the wall and I have driven by it many times without bothering to stop. What a mistake that has been. This place is chocked full of stuff at discounted prices including a good selection of used gear. One item of note was an old Colt .38 special 5" with law enforcement stamping. The blueing was worn. They wanted $325. Does this sound like a deal?
Maybe one of the colt guys will know but I can tell you if it has the unshrouded extraction rod and 38 special those usually go pretty cheap around here.

The extraction rod was unshrouded. Looked like something Broderick Crawford would have carried on "Highway Patrol".

Depends a little on which model, An Official Police or a Police Positive Special. Everything depends on condition but around here $325 is about average for a shooter condition PPS. OPs tend to go a bit more. With the Colt models you'll find lots of regional differences. A PP in my area may be worth X but in another it's worth more. Some collectors would pay a slight premium for Police Department marked guns too. I'd ask around in your area to get a better feel for prices, but it sounds like a fair price to me.
Regardless if it's in good shape it would make a GREAT shooter. These old Colts often surprise people with how smooth and accurate they can be.
