Big Glock (Model 20)
Last Thursday afternoon I got bored staying in out of the heat and decided to play with a couple of my toys that haven't been outside for a while. It was warmish - roughly mid 90s with a heat index around 106.
The two toys I took with me were a Glock Model 20 and a S&W Model 610. I have a little shooting area set up along a piece of my south fence line (with some shade). Anyway, I walked down and set the guns and ammo down and spent a little time setting up some targets. By now I was working up a bit of sweat. I took the Glock out and proceded to run through a magazine. By the time I was about 1/2 way through my hands were very sweaty and during the second magazine my hands became wet enough that the gun was slipping in my hand with each shot. Effectly causing me to "limp wrist" the gun and resulting in some premature slide locks. I was rather suprised at how slippery the grip became when thoroughly wet. It also made me aware that my average sized hand is a bit too small for the large frame Glock when using snappy rounds under wet conditions. I had run several hundred rounds through this gun when I first acquired it about 6 years ago (in the fall) and had no problem with it. I've only shot it sporatically since then, but still with no problem until I hit high heat and a LOT of sweat. I'm now debating whether to texture the grip - perhaps with some tape or sand - relegate the gun to decent weather only use - or perhaps just selling it. I like th 10mm and the Glock can serve as a very durable field gun, and is wwwaayyy lighter on the belt than the 610. Actually with 15 rounds it weights about the same as a loaded full size alloy frame 1911 in .45 ACP. FWIW - the S&W Model 610, with wood grips was controlable even with my very sweaty hands. [And not one single instance of slide lock. ]

Chuckle. Are you sure that 610 hasen't had some work done on the slide? Feed ramp polished?
![]() I solved my slickery glock problem with one of those innertube things you put on the handle. My hands are very large though and it probably wouldn't work for you. Perhaps some of that skateboard tape would help.

...or you could get out the soldering iron and perform some Dr. RJ surgery to improve the grip texture.

Stippling is what it's all about. Just practice on some 20 oz bottle caps first, then have at your glock.
do the outside (so it isn't rough on your skin in the holster.) Front and back. It's really not hard to do!
