Since Michigan became a 'shall issue' state, every gun shop with a range is running Concealed Pistol Licence classes. Prices range from $99 to over $200 and the wide range of material is supposed to be covered. Then there is the "friend of a friend" that does one-on-one training. They got theirs in an hour or so.

The majority of the 'formal' gun shop classes take 9 to 10 hours and that includes an hour and a half to two hours of range time. No score was required and the target was set at 3 yards!!!

HH there is a mandatory class time period in Texas. Been a couple of years and I'm sure they will tell me again in the class but I thought it was eight or ten hours including range time. Roy will probably know since he just took his.

I recently got renewed on my CCW. I wasn't required a class for the first one, because I was fresh out of the Navy with my Expert Marksman Certification. However, I took the class anyway.

I wasn't required to take it for my renewal, but I took it again ANYWAY.

When it comes up for renewal, I think I'll take ANOTHER class, but this time it'll be a three day intensive at www.tdiohio.com

The class is okay, but I prefer MORE trigger time. I figure 500 rounds minimum for a good instructor evaluation

NC requires a class; took up about eight to nine hours of the day with range time included. Most of the class though focused on the deadly force aspects of state law.

Ohio class is supposed to be 2 days but I have a customer who is an instructor and does a compressed version (no breaks) in less than a day. He provided the ammo and guns, too. Total cost was $50 (which I probably shot up during the range session). My wife, daughter, son-in-law and his parents all went through this course, too.

The Texas class is very similar. They want to make sure you understand that the use of deadly force is the very last option. Before you use deadly force they must be so close you can either shoot them or hit them with the end of the barrel and you must not have any other avenue of escape.

In Texas, 10 hours... 3 of which is real instruction, 7 is filler.

Range time was included and you shoot ~50 rounds at 3 distances.

I'd very much like to learn about the actual class itself as well as what the qualifications are to be an instructor. Also, what is the curriculum in for the student class?

GA doesn't have a training requirement for the Georgia Weapon License (became GWL this session), but I am an NRA Basic Pistol and Personal Protection In The Home instructor as well as a GA POST general and firearms instructor.

The NRA basic pistol class (8 hours) is accepted by some states. I recently taught a basic pistol class for a couple so they could get a non-resident permit from Connecticut. I'm pretty sure Florida accepts it.
