.460 Rowland

Anyone out there have any experience with .460 Rowland?

Supposed to get .44 Mag performance out of a .45 ACP sized cartridge.

I'm intrigued by the name, since it is my first name. I think I may have a 625 bored out to accept that round. They also make "drop in kits" to go into 1911's. I'm really intrigued. What say you?

It's been around for a while, so any sneaky problems with it would probably have surfaced by now. I seriously considered getting one of the kits a few years back, but for whatever reason didn't.

If you haven't already read the tech article at Brownells....

I've talked to the folks at Clark Customs. I'm just on the fence right now about it. It's an impressive number they're posting: 230gr at 1300+ Fps.

Yup. Pretty impressive. In the article on Brownell's web site the guy was saying Georgia Arms had two loads, one at 185 grains going out at 1,550 and another at 230 grains that supposedly clocked 1,350. All that in a gun you can actually carry and shoot. Shades of the .45 Win. Mag.. For which not too, too many guns were ever chambered.

Well, it's been a bit better than a week. Have you come down off that fence?

Not yet. I'm still pondering. I don't know if I should first convert one of my 1911's or if I should convert a revolver......Decisions, decisions.

Well, in my considered Old Geezer Opinion, I'd do the 1911.

I have several Rooting and Tooting Revolvers, but the older I get, the heavier they get when I tote them out and about. And, consequently, I'm toteing them out and about less and less as time passes. Mostly the big n-frames get to lay in the shade and look pretty for company. When I do carry a revolver in the woods it is mostly my j-frame Model 60. Sometimes one of my little Diamondback Colts.

Now I do still carry 1911s, so the .460 Rowland would probably see some real outdoors time over and above whatever range attention I'd give it.

Now if I was just looking for a fun project, with no intention of giving the result any woods time I might look into seeing if a 4th cylinder might be in my .45 Blackhawk's future.

Slow down on the Saiga collection....

Just kidding.... A 1911 in .460 would be awesome.... Clark Custom is a first class operation that has been around a long time.

Yeah.....That Saiga issue is getting out of hand. I can't believe how much fun a $439 starter kit can be to "dress up."

Now, if I could get out of the Arms Race with HoldHard, I would be happier.....but NO, Mr. Enabler keeps coming around showing off his cool 3 gun gear.....
